ITAD Knowledge

ITAD processes, responsible asset handling and technology recovery. What the acronym means, what actually happens inside the process, and where the honest limits are.

A branch marked reuse-first lifts working equipment away, while the remaining material is separated into labelled streams for circuit boards, metals, plastics and cable copper. ITAD in one paragraph

ITAD stands for IT asset disposition: the managed process of removing IT equipment from service and deciding what happens to it next. It covers collection, data considerations, evaluation, reuse, resale and — only at the end — recycling. TAR sits at the commercial end of that process as an international buyer of the reusable output.

Why the vocabulary matters

The words in this field are used loosely, and the looseness costs people money. "Disposal" and "disposition" are not the same thing. "Wiped" and "certified erased" are not the same thing. "Recycled" and "responsibly handled" are not the same thing. This pillar defines the terms as TAR uses them, and the glossary defines them formally.

Put it into practice

Reading about it is one thing.
